I ran across an American history textbook that is extraordinary reading. It's titled 'America: A Narrative History'. George B. Tindall and David Emory Shi are the authors. I have the 5th edition. Chapter 1 begins with pre-Columbian Indian civilizations and ends with Bill Clinton's administration. The book weighs four lbs. and surprisingly, the material covered is not politically correct. For example, American Indians owned slaves as did the freed blacks. Each chapter ends with further reading. I'm just starting to read it. Actually, I'm skimming through it. lol The Civil War chapters are quite interesting. Maps and pictures are scattered throughout the book.

It sounds really interesting! Indians owned slaves? You might have a copy of one of the few real history books ever written in this country. Good find!
Is this still available or out of print?

There is a current 9th edition, 2012. It's been streamlined and most probably, dumbed down and pc'd. I doubt today that anyone will learn that American Indians owned slaves and fought for the Confederacy, or that blacks fought for the CSA. Or that, through further reading, that the first slave owner...

The liberals may have already influenced the book. The latest 9th edition has been streamlined and dumbed down, and now includes African American history. Nicholas Cage. Wow, he so happens to be a favorite actor of mine. lol

The publisher is W.W. Norton & Co. I got the 5th edition that came out in 1999. The newest 9th edition came out in 2012 and is streamlined, dumbed down and now includes political correct history, like a special African American section.

Did you search Abe Books, https://www.abebooks.com/
If you have the ISBN it helps.
This is off topic but I'm going to mention it anyway.  College books are very, very expensive. For instance, Intermediate Accounting was about $375/new.
BUT, when there is an "International Edition" it will cost you ...
