I really tried hard to understand this but I'm not much beyond simple Algebra. However, I couldn't figure this out. My tendency is to add the tens, then add 6 +7, then combine the answers.

Sometimes I use my fingers........

That is how I would do it too - add the tens - (or hundreds etc what ever it is up to first and then head right --- adding smaller groups and adding as I go lol.. it's a fast way for me. I always know the percent of tip within a few seconds because I find ten percent and - add half - double it etc w...

I really messed this up right away. I read the first sentence and my untrained brain spit out the answer before i could even start breaking the numbers up. It took all the fun out of it.
