For far to long too many in the Black community have suffered unnecessary failures, hurt and pain due to the collapse of the natural family. This has lead to any number of unintended consequences including high rates of out of wedlock births, abortions, high incarceration rates of Black males, Black on Black crime and gang violence. To this, we also add the increasingly extreme homosexual lobby’s aggressive attempts to redefine both the God-ordained origin and purpose of the family. The truth is, these symptoms are an indication of a much larger problem, which together have resulted in the breakdown of the Black family.

Fortunately in spite of these unsettling trends, we are not without hope. Both historical and biblical precedence bears witness to the fact that the “natural family” is the foundation of our society. As a matter of fact, married families themselves greatly benefit society as a whole because, generally speaking, these families are better off financially, socially, and health-wise than any other family structures.We believe that through the promotion and propagation of intact natural families (coupled with the ongoing education and  implementation of the R.I.S.E. principles) we will begin to diminish the need for, and over dependence on, such things as welfare programs and unnecessary government interference; and in turn give “rise” to extraordinary possibilities that are the result of healthier, more responsible and productive, members of society.

Though, by in large, the conservative movement has been poorly branded within the African American community; we believe, the BCS’s focus on defending the natural family will serve, as a catalyst for uniting and creating much needed dialogue between Black conservative leaders and the African American constituency. The aim of this dialogue, among other things, will be to ignite various grassroots initiatives within the African American community; as well as to articulate a plan of action to engage and support Black conservative leaders, and others, in effectively conveying the conservative message. Ultimately, we are committed to tirelessly advocating on behalf of public policy, that strengthens the natural family and fights against policies which weaken it, exposing consequential life or death differences.

Hence, with an anticipated attendance of conservative leaders, pastors, activists and concerned citizens from across the U.S., Freedom’s Journal Institute (FJI) will host its first-ever Black Conservative Summit (BCS) this coming August 29-31, 2013 featuring national, state, and local leaders prepared to address key issues and challenges facing, in particular, Black America. Our goal, under the theme “Defending the Natural Family: R.I.S.E. to Rebuild the Foundation of Black America,” is to rally, here to the Chicagoland area, the largest gathering of Black conservatives– Republican, Democrat and Independent– in an effort to discuss how together we begin to turn the tide in our communities amidst the growing attack, and subsequent breakdown, of the Black family.
