I read that Rome had their own gay fighting troop - where they were all put together in one outfit because they were the most vicious fighters. They gave them very brutal battles to fight.

I truly question that story as a fable. The Roman Legions historically practiced "Don't ask, don't tell," And the summarily executed gay men as being unfit to be Romans.
