To me, the image on the right appears to be the man wearing a fish, hanging from his head. A fish is also a symbol of Christ, but this fish is not that fish. See where I am going with this? Does a similarity of form mean that the early church worshiped Dagon rather than Christ? I think not. Rather, ...

I think it has to do with the Greek letters that spell fish and stories of how Christians would draw half fish and if another saw it would finish the drawing to recognize each other. But don't quote me on that.
