My grandson was killed in a housefire last Oct. 27th. It is still hard for me to talk about this but I see the need to inform people of what caused his death.
Rest in peace Dylon.
Have you ever heard of balloon frame construction? I know I hadn't and am finding out now that it was widely used in the U.S. the first part of the last century. Hopefully this information will save lives because of the knowledge it contains. Several people in my grandsons town have now had a contractor come in and applied the appropriate safety measures to their ballon frame houses. Just a heads up though.... my son-in-law had hired two safety inspectors before he bought the house they were living in and both signed off on the house. He also had assurances from the person that had remodeled the house that the house was safe. If you find that you live in a house with ballon frame construction and decide to have it examined be sure that the people who examine it know what they are talking about and if they do the work that no corners are cut.
There are a number of sites about ballon frame constuction. Here are just a couple.
One indicator that I've learned that may point to this type of construction is that the upper and lower windows are parallel.
Please give your Daughter and Son-in-Law my best, Cuz. Keeping you all in my prayers.
HA!
Just read your added links and found the same thing there.
Guess I did not add as much to the conversation as I had hoped.
Almost everyone who uses headphones, goes to sleep (many times) with them on.
I Wont wear them for that reason.
Yes it's horrible. I am grateful my daughter and son-in-law made it out though.
