We, (mostly I - LOL) have been selecting the details of our wedding such as invitations, decorations, and the cake, without having a date because we have relatives from Australia and another set from the UK that we would really love to be here.  It looks like we have it narrowed down to between the end of October and the end of February LOL which isn't much of a narrow time. There are a lot of holidays during this period, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Eve and Valentines Day! We've been talking about whether we would want to have the wedding on or near one of these days. It seems like there are pros and cons of doing either.

I have to admit I get excited thinking about the themes we could enjoy using for the wedding. Halloween is especially interesting to me! LOL My husband to be says he doesn't care one way or the other but he is leaning towards us having or attending parties for the holidays and selecting our own special day for our wedding. We both think it might be okay to have it on Valentines day however that puts it at the end of our time range. Of course I would prefer it to be sooner! But maybe it would be worth waiting for so Valentines day will always be so much more special for the rest of our lives.

Does anyone have thoughts about whether it is a good idea to have a wedding on a holiday or not?

Rocky
I don't like it because not everyone can make it. And what I particularly HATE is when people have several commitments for the day and come a while and leave.

But it probably depends on your guest list too. If it's mostly family you can make a day of it.

Good points Rocky thanks! For us it will be our families which is about fifty people with the kids and both of us have maybe two or three close friends we would invite.

Thanks Judith. I believe this too. It only gets complicated because other people want to share in the occasion and we want them to be there too.

Labor day would be great! Unfortunately that isn't in our time frame for one set of the relatives to travel here from the UK. The rest of our families are within a couple hours drive so traveling isn't a big deal for them. Thank goodness! I like the idea that there is more time off with certain hol...

Hi, Cassie! Why not consider new Year's Eve? That way you can ring out the old year with all those whom you love and ring in the new year on a new path, in a new direction, with the love of your life?

Hmm tough question! Not to repeat anything already suggested, as there are some thoughtful good responses that also came to mind ...  A few things I'm thinking of..  Thanksgiving isn't always on the same day so you have that too. Of all of the holidays to me it does seem like either New Years eve or...

Hi Safari! I think we have gotten it down to either Valentines or New Year's eve IF we even go for a holiday. We are still kicking it around. In a way, like you say, I see the point of having a day for us and not related to anything else. A day falling close to Holidays might add more stress for eve...

My parents were married on Christmas. No one ever remembered to give them a gift or do anything nice for them. Their anniversary was lost in the holiday itself.

Thanks Lucas. We've definitely ruled out Christmas! We ruled out Halloween too. LOL It was fun thinking up crazy stuff but this is too important. I was only kidding about that to start with other than it was fun to imagine.
