I just opened a shizzstorm with my comments to these people on twitter - I am offended by this stupid article. Women can and should be in construction if they are good at it - should they be hired for only affirmative action? No - but that isn't what is said. This bridge was designed from the minds of engineers, approved by gov engineers, the job was ran according to gov controlled schedule, the specs were spelled out by the engineers and the university desired it. This was an experimental bridge - plus there are now legit questions about the quality of materials as related to China steel and other sources. To say women shouldn't be in construction is just absurd. No one has the slightest clue what failed here - lets wait and see. If it was the construction company's fault then so be it - but it still doesn't mean women can't and shouldn't be in construction
Yes, women can be in construction but I firmly believe that it should be recognized that they think different from men. How do I know? Because I've worked women in my trade. This woman admitted it herself!

(“It’s very important for me as a woman and an engineer to be able to promote that to my daughter because I think women have a different perspective. We’re able to put in an artistic touch and we’re able to build too.” Leonor Flores, FIU alumna, and MCM project exec.
I'm more about what can individuals do than the war of the sexes really! many men I've known couldn't hit a nail with a ten pound hammer and the best plumber I've ever known was a woman. I don't care who does what as long as they do a good job.
lol....no you didn't stutter. I tried sneaking this in there to see if anyone would pick up on it. Hence no title or comment. You were on it like a mongoose on a cobra.
lol - well I'd just hit a nerve on twitter - I'm still getting the weirdest comments ever - it's rare I piss off conservatives and liberals by the same comment! Most comments though are from men saying -- shouldn't you be making dinner right about now --- and sexist stuff like that LOL - yeah those ...

You know, I have an acquaintance/friend that just suddenly lost his wife. I've stopped by to see him a number of times and he is lost. You know, I have an acquaintance/friend that just suddenly lost his wife. I've stopped by to see him a number of times and he is lost. Sure, he misses his wife terribly but the sad part is he doesn't know how to take care of himself. He sucks at making a meal, his house is a wreck, she paid all the bills so now he's getting notices and late charges, and he can't find half the stuff he looks for when he know he has it. Now I wouldn't call him a sexist but certainly has neglected preparing for being single. He's like almost desperate to find someone to take care of him. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I see the merits of being well rounded and sexism thwarts that.
Definitely! I don't know if I could or would want to anymore - but I used to change a mean tire, do oil changes and fix almost anything that broke in the house pretty well... I don't like roles - that are gender assumed - everyone needs to be a survivalist if they need to be.
