and women still need an "out", a job, a way to support themselves and the kids if the man is abusive, alcoholic, porn addicted, abandons them etc. it was NO picnic for MANY women

I agree that it is important! Been there done that when it wasn't so easy. But it would be good for the healthy families if their kids could have the benefit of a stay at home parent if that is what they want to do. Anymore it is so hard to accomplish.
