I have done yoga myself....there is no mysticism or religion involved....unless you want there to be.

Deep breathing, stretching and relaxation techniques....what we all probably need to do more of on a daily basis, without hurting one's body by doing calisthenics, running, weight training, or other ...

It better be! I do it for the health reasons. I don't think about the origins or teachings. I don't even know what they are. It helped me calm down after a bad time in life, stop smoking, get more flexible and lose weight! How can that be bad?

Not really. The heath bennies can be sought elsewhere, and it reminds one of mastibatory kundalini.

What about if you just do the stretches and breathing like I do? I guess I finally found the thing I don't agree with someone in here about. LOL

Mind you, I still smoke cigarettes, and tobacco is used by American Indians in their rites, and as offerings to their various gods.
I was mostly involved in TM and such, so take my position for what it's worth... zilch.

*there, fixed.

LOL I had to look up TMA and I found in this order: Turnaround Management Association, trimethoxyamphetamine, Tobacco Merchants Association, Texas Medical Association and a bunch more that didn't make sense to what we are talking about, or I don't think they do. LOL So what is TMA? Oh now I'm giggli...

is it OK for christians to do acupuncture, dance, floss teeth, eat kosher food, camp out like the Native Americans did, read the Bible in Hebrew? is this straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel?

Thanks Judith. I was feeling a little guilty for a minute there! I often spend time holding positions and praying. I feel it is a positive thing for me.

I don't think that one has to believe in the religious connotations of Eastern thought....one can do their own Christian prayers along with the exercises of yoga. If that is your cup of tea....more power to you!

I find it funny that some Christians will not do yoga due to some individual saying that it has pagan connotations....but these same Christians think nothing of celebrating Christmas and Easter...or going to church on a Sunday instead of a Saturday.

Yes, I think it's ok, but I think it probably also depends on the instructor. I take a seniors class where the instructor is also a senior. She incorporates a lot of physical therapy stretches into what we are doing, and she explains exactly where each of the stretches are beneficial to the body. ...

You made a good point. When I learned yoga the lady never talked about anything but what the positions did for the body. I wouldn't go to a class to learn the other part either.

This brings up another important point. Is it OK to pray while you are going to the bathroom or to go to the bathroom while you pray?

Oh, Rocky! lol! Prayer is ALWAYS good, no matter where you are. God isn't watching what you're doing, He's listening to what you are saying. Just as long as the sojourn isn't distracting...ahem!

Considering that all living things....."go to the bathroom"....it's a normal bodily function.....If you can drink prune juice, or take a colon cleanse, then praying is also acceptable....Anything that helps!
God is good.!

I'm qualifying my vote. There are many kinds of yoga, tantric, hatha, etc., that are designed for both meditation and exercise. One also has to be aware of the energy flow involved. Stretching and exercise is always a good thing, but for Christians, the meditation should run along the lines of one'...

I do yoga sometimes. I also eat kosher and say some of my prayers in Hebrew. But I do not meditate. I like yoga because it keeps me more limber.

Yoga is only one faction of the Hindu religion. If a Christian doesn't start following the theological side of Hinduism, I see no problem.
