What is interesting to me is when I was more of a math whiz - I would sometimes round numbers to something easier to work out in my head and do the - add or subtract thing afterwards to get the exact number. But this still seems foreign to me and so confusing. For example I might multiply 43x9 - quickly by multiplying 43x10 - 40 - 3 to get the answer in a matter of seconds. If this is the kind of thing they are trying to teach I think they are missing the mark in their methods!
I do the same thing. I've been doing it since I first learned math. But I wasn't taught it. If it was explained like you just did it might make sense to many but I can see how it would totally frustrate others.
8+5= 13 This is more commie core.
