It was always green. It's made of bronze, and I'm assuming an acid patina was applied to render it green. It was green in the original drawing,which I shall post so you can see it.

I agree--Jolly Green Giant green now. I remember it as more of an actual patina color green. Haven't been downtown for a while to look at it. Need to be in the Courthouse around May to renew my Notary, and will check it out then. Perhaps they did paint it along with all the other unhappy changes...
