Dear Governor Scott

By signing the common core bill you just went against a surging moment to stop Common core, also known as Obomacore, which is literally sweeping the country. I am disappointed; I was looking forward to supporting you in 2014, as I did in 2010.  I am sure there is a reason you went against the RNC, Homeschoolers, Christian groups, family values groups, Tea party groups, 912 groups, and parents across the state.

It is a shame that you missed the one opportunity you had to get the support of teachers. They see the frustration that their students are already having the Common core math and language arts. We have so many good, caring and professional teachers in our schools. Common core will reduce teachers to merely prepping kids for high stakes “assessments”, subjectively graded in Washington, without any knowledge of what is actually happening in the classroom and with each student. Teachers are still blaming you for the FCATs, wait until they get a load of Common core, FCATs on steroids.

Maybe you did your research think the Federal Department of Education should control our kids education.  I have done my research and I know what will happen. When the other parents find out what in the common core standards for subjects like history and science, they too will want to fight it. They will come to realize that you signed the bill that locked us into the Common core standards, sight unseen, with no ability change any part.  We will be left with unfunded mandates but no parent, no school board, or nor any elected official can question what is being taught to our own children.

I am a parent, and knowing what I know, I am obligated to work against Common core until it is gone.  I hold out the hope that you will return to side of individual rights and personal responsibility. But until then, as they say, “We wish you luck with your future endeavors”

Oh wow!!!! I hadn't heard! What the heck? Any explanation on this from Scott? I read that 47 states already passed it, is that right? Which two states have not yet? That I never found - (being apparently now FL also signed! He better explain!)
