As bad as the Common Core Standard is, and it is bad, a very urgent issue being decide today or soon in the Florida Senate Education Committee. We all need to call every member of the committee and stop this bill. The bill is SB 878 and called the Education Accountability Bill, but it is most often 9and more accurately) referenced as the Common Core Linked Data Warehouse Bill. Wonder full analysis has already been on the original draft of this bill by Dr been done by Dr. Karen R. Effrem, President of Education Liberty Watch, and is linked below.
The bill was introduced by Florida State Senator Bill Galvano, we are told, so Florida would be eligible for the Race to The Top award. The RTTT money (misappropriated from the 2009 stimulus funds) is the carrot and the common core standard along with our children’s privacy are just two of the sticks.
To his credit Senator Galvano postponed voting on the bill pending after hearing of the cancers of DR Effrem and others. However, I was told that the committee had very recently added amendment to the bill that Senator Galvano’s aide said addressed all our concerns.
I have enclosed a copy of the amended bill SB 878, with the usual additions in green and deletions in red. Follow this link to the amended bill http://www.flsenate.gov/S...
Pleases go to the websites below to find out if the amendments have indeed addressed the concerns with the original bill. You need to know the danger inherent in the K-20 data warehouse before you call the senators. Once you learn what you need to know and if no updates are available, do your own analyses call every senator to either thank them of ask them to try again. Although I am no expert, I think that the senator is missing the main point. I see nothing that prevents the personal data being given to the how the Department of Education or hoe the personal data is being collected in the first place. Start by going to Dr. Karen Effrem website at http://edlibertywatch.org... .She has posted recent articles about SB878 on Education Liberty Watch and has a printable version at Dr Effrem’s Executive summary in printable version . This website also contains a wealth of information about vital education issues.
Next go to the Stop Common Core in Florida face book page, where I have found timely updates, action steps and contact information. They are also requesting that we call other Senators asking them to do a long term and short term cost analysis of implementing and linking the provisions in the Common core bills. This is a great idea because taking short term money from Washington rarely pays off, and that may defeat the entire Common Core project. Moreover, this site tracks all common core issues and you need not have a face books account to read the posts.
A very well done and effective site is FLORIDIANS AGAINST COMMON CORE EDUCATION This site has information about the bill as well as highly printable versions of Dr Effrem’s analyses about the bill and Common Core. They also have educational material about common core as well as bill tracking, http://www.flagainstcommo... .

Research fellow Joy Pullmann at the Heartland Institute points to a February Department of Education report on its data-mining plans that contemplates the use of creepy student-monitoring techniques such as “functional magnetic resonance imaging” and “using cameras to judge facial expressions, an electronic seat that judges posture, a pressure-sensitive computer mouse and a biometric wrap on kids’ wrists.”

If you feel that this needs to be stopped, then we all need to visit, call, fax, email, and tweet and share your opinions with your state senator as well as every member of the Florida Educations committee. It any help to contact Governor Scott and the Florida Department of Education Commissioner Dr. Tony Bennett. However, this bill is in the hands of the Florida Legislature. You may also contact your local school board members to raise their concerns to the senate; after all, when Common Core is implemented they will no longer be needed.

Effective Communication with a Legislator
General Tips
Know who your legislators are and how to contact them. If you don't know who represents you, you can find out by using the Find Your Legislator tool. Your senator's flsenate.gov page will give you his or her mailing addresses, phone numbers, and email address.
Make sure you understand the legislative process. Even the most basic understanding of the process will help you effectively express your ideas.
Contact your legislator about a particular issue before the Legislature takes action on it. Most matters coming before the Legislature are well publicized before session.
Use a variety of communication methods. You might choose to telephone, write, email, fax, or visit your legislator. You might also choose to give testimony at public hearings held by the Legislature. (To give testimony, you would need to contact the appropriate committee administrative assistant before the hearing to sign up.)
Tell your legislator what effect you think a particular bill, if it becomes law, will have on you, your children, business, or community. Be concise, but specific.
Be polite, even if you disagree strongly with the legislator you are addressing. Lawmakers cannot please everyone. Your communication will be more effective if you are reasonable in your approach.
Suggest a course of action and offer assistance. Don't make promises or threats.
