THE AMERICAN PRESIDENCY: SOME PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS

PART VIII

THE STATE OF THE UNION, 2018

R. A. Schultz

Well, there it is, folks!  President Trump has enumerated many of our accomplishments during his first year of leadership in office, and he has charted the way, for the next seven years at the very least, for We the People to take our country back completely and forever!  My own personal bottom line?  It was the most upbeat, comprehensive, patriotic, optimistic, inspiring, and forward-looking speech since the JFK inaugural.

There were few surprises, but all were pleasant and positive, such as the mention of “beautiful clean coal,” lowered pharmaceutical prices, drug addiction treatment, the fight against MS-13, and prison reform.  The re-affirmation that “Gitmo stays” was a real plus.

As for the external threats:  The territory once held by ISIS has been lessened almost to the point of non-existence, while the de-nuclearization of North Korea is being pursued through intensive diplomatic efforts, and is beginning to show signs of success.

American heroes, personal guests of the President and First Lady, were recognized and applauded.  The parents of two victims of MS-13 were recognized and comforted.  The entire speech was unmistakably and unapologetically “America First!”

The Lefties today should really be embarrassed that they sat on their hands for the many applause lines, especially those mentioning rising wages, 2.4 million new jobs, and African-American unemployment being the lowest ever, and Hispanic unemployment being the lowest in history.

After the speech, Fox News had a very brief analysis.  I usually don’t watch these because the panelists rarely analyze but rather try to plant seeds in your mind as to how you’re expected to think.  Typically, Juan Williams said he thought President Trump’s SOTU speech was “bellicose,” and “all about him.”  I immediately wondered from what planet Williams had just landed.  Williams whined that he had been “expecting an olive branch that wasn’t there.  My response:  Juan, the “olive branch” WAS there:  We AMERICANS are rolling; you’re welcome to climb aboard!”  The other panelists, particularly Dana Perino, were upbeat and pleased with the speech.

Did I watch any of the five Democrat “responses?”  Of course not!  They have about as much relevance as the NFL!
