THE CONGRESSIONAL IMPROVEMENT ACT OF 2017?
I had a thought some time ago about how to maximize our "investment" in Congress. Their current "work week" is normally three consecutive days each week and the travel bill for each of them is astronomical. How about we connect the office of each senator and representative to the Capitol clerk's office electronically, on the model of on-line business meetings? That way, the members of Congress can remain in their districts most of the year, participating, debating, arguing, and voting electronically right from their home offices, thus reducing travel time and expense, expanding the work week to 5 days a week, and getting a helluva lot more work done while spending a helluva lot less taxpayer money! Congress could then meet in Washington as necessary, for example, for State of the Union messages, inaugurations, swearing-in of new members, joint sessions, etc. This would have the ancillary benefit of significantly reducing direct contact between our members of Congress and the jackals known as lobbyists, not to mention Ukrainians and Russians.
