I almost just got arrested! What a cluster F of events I had today.

I realized last night that I forgot to do the state tax report and payment a few days ago. It turns out I only owned .92 cents but if it arrives in Tallahassee after tomorrow I would be charged 70 dollars - for two businesses - for being late!

I got the taxes done and an order ready today and thought I was running late to get to the Post Office by 2:00 PM to get it to Tallahassee on time. Something came over me and it was like a goblin on my shoulder making me disorganized getting out the door. I drove all the way to the P.O. to discover I left the tax mail at home!

So, at 1:00 PM from the post office, I turned around and was following along with the traffic to return for it with hopes I could get back there in time. The urge to speed was upon me but I was not speeding over what others were driving. Then, dang it, I heard a little voice in my head that said, be careful don't speed there could be a cop. This went through my head more than once!

I was listening to the radio and following along behind a truck some distance ahead of me keeping the same distance and the last I checked I was going just a mile or two over the speed limit. I noticed a cop on a bike on the side of the road and passed him. I really didn't think I was speeding and watching the mirror I didn't see him come after me. I continued along and suddenly there he was behind me with his lights on.

Crap - I'm thinking I'm not only getting a ticket and will be charged the seventy dollars for being late on the taxes because I likely will never make it back to the post office in time after this stop.

Nervously I give him my papers and license. He said I was going 58 in a 45 which means it would be a hugely expensive ticket.  I couldn't believe I was going that fast but who was I to argue at this point I just wanted to get out of there. It went through my mind if I was going that fast so was the truck ahead of me and wondered why did he get me and not the truck. Just my luck I guessed or was that goblin still on my shoulder?

After taking my information to his bike he came back and started questioning me oddly about how was I in possession of this car. WHAT? He asked for a lot of details then went back to his bike.

Finally he came back and told me the license plate on the car was illegal because it is a dealer tag out of Georgia and the car is still registered in my name not the dealer name. He informed me this is not a traffic violation but a crime and that I could be arrested for it. Then he told me to hang on and went back to his bike again.

I was about in tears. I wondered if he was calling a car to come pick me up under arrest or what was going on. Finally he came back with the ticket and told me he would cut me a break but if I get caught driving again with the tag I will go to jail. omg!  He also wrote me up for less miles over the speed limit than I was going. This cut my ticket from over $300.00 to $120.00 and I can do the driving school online, which costs about sixty dollars, and avoid points. I've had a safe driver designation on my license for over ten years so, I really have to do this.

I asked him if I should not drive the car and he said he couldn't give me advice but that I should be aware if I got pulled over again or if my tag was run for any reason, I would be going to jail. I told him, I need to turn around and go somewhere almost immediately, and asked if he was going to be sitting up the road, and knowing I had this plate would be obliged to pull me over again. He said no he would be taking off to another location. (Oh lucky me)

I looked at the clock and figured I still maybe, barely, had time to go home get the mail and drive the speed limit back to the post office to get it in before 2:00. My heart was pounding the whole way there and I was feeling like I just robbed a bank or something! I made it back to the post office with about two minutes to spare. Once at the counter I was telling the lady what happened and she said, oh you don't have to have it here by 2:00!

On the way out there was a Sheriff's car parked next to me in the parking lot and my heart just dropped. They've come after me, I thought! I stood there outside the door and strained to see if there was an officer inside. I couldn't tell due to the tinting and finally I walked slowly to my car thinking if I saw someone in it I would just keep going between the cars and out to the road on foot! Luckily it was a coincidence and I was able to get in my car and drive away without being put in hand cuffs!

Now I've been driving on dealer tags since about the mid eighties and gotten tickets and been in accidents before but never have I heard this from any officer but yet it makes sense. The dealership license is still active even though it is no longer in business but that isn't the legal issue. The issue is the car is still registered in my name and I had NO idea this was how it was done when the business gave me the tags in the first place.

Lesson learned - LISTEN TO THE VOICE IN YOUR HEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I have been getting a lot of premonitions lately and I don't know why I still don't trust them and I need to learn to.

For example, the other day, Kgirl was here helping me paint a ceiling. Something about the paint lid not being on tight and her using that paint can went through my head so I  made a point to tell her about it with a warning. I was getting the vibe there could be an accident if I didn't. Well that accident didn't happen, but she later picked up the step stool the paint can was on, which unlike hers that stays locked open which she was expecting, mine folds shut, and the paint went all over the rug anyway!

So maybe sometimes premonitions can't prevent a situation, but if I had truly listened with due diligence today, I would not now be a nervous wreck, with almost two hundred dollars of expense ahead and possibly more because now I have to figure out the car title situation too. The reason this car is under the dealer is because the insurance is far cheaper by almost a thousand dollars a year. The business is now part of an estate situation so if I put the car in the business, there could be a reason others involved would then want their percent of my car! If I don't then there will be many hundreds of dollars more to pay to register it and the extra for the insurance.

omg ---

What a day so  far. I feel like going back to bed.

Sorry I 'ticked' like, cause I'm not liking this at all. I call it the Tar Baby Syndrome..... One rotten thing leads to another.

Sad, but it IS discretionary when issuing a ticket, but at least he gave you a break. I would go to court if I was you. Please keep me posted on the expenses.

Wanda, I'm thinking maybe you need to learn how to cry in front of cops. Of course it probably wouldn't work if it was a woman cop.
Hang in there girl.....
