Dear Merciful and Loving God,

On this day that millions have gathered in your presence to worship you as the creator of all that exists including this earth and the inhabitants of it, we come before you with a heavy heart saddened by the senseless massacre of the innocent. It makes us even sadder to know that the murderer was missing the meaning of the life you gave him and your love for him to a depth that left him empty and filled with a rage that took these dear precious lives.

You have told us that life on this earth is not the same as life in heaven with you because evil is loose and walks among us here. We know that you have given us free will and your Holy laws to love each other and minister to each other’s needs. We chose to follow you oh Lord and we pray that you will help us to find peace and guide us to know what to do for those who are grieving today for a loss that has torn their families apart and left them crying to you for help and understanding.

Today the families of the victims may feel there will never be peace in their lives again. And we ask you to show them your love and comfort through those who can be there to put their arms around them in your name.  We ask that those who are left behind may find relief in knowing that you have their loved ones with you and in knowing that they are away from the wicked of the material world full of pain and suffering and safe in your love and light where their souls are filled with joy even as those they left behind cry out.

We pray that those who seek ways to use this tragedy to their own ends be silenced and stopped in their tracks for the protection of the rest of us who need to be able to defend ourselves from the wicked so that all of our lives will not be at risk.

We know that evil will always be a factor of this life on earth and that each of us will experience loss of loved ones, pain and suffering sometime during the years we have to spend here whether short or long. And we ask that you strengthen us and prepare us to face it, to change it when we can and find peace when we cannot.  Help us to reach the lost Oh Lord, and to teach those who are as empty and angry as the murderer about the love that your children experience and to find you where you reside in them when it is hidden from their hearts and minds.

These things we humbly ask and we thank you for the blessings that we have been given in spite of this tragedy that the people in this nation and from around the world are saddened by.  In these dark hours, give us your light and love, strengthen us to withstand the pain, and help us to find the way you want us to go that will turn this tragedy into a triumph for winning over more souls to become your children who work for good.

Amen.
