Common Core? Tell Florida Leadership: We Can Do Better!

The Florida Citizens Alliance is suggesting that we write our Florida elected officials and the Legislative leaders in Tallahassee.

However, we have even more influence in St Johns County, Flagler County, Putnam County and in North Volusia County, because they need our vote next Tuesday, because we can do better!

In St. Johns, Flagler, Putnam, and part of Volusia Counties we have no elected officials. We are having a Special election primary next Tuesday , 1/27, to decide our legislators for both the House and Senate.

Two weeks ago, we handed all three candidates for Senate District 6, a letter asking them to commit to oppose common core and support the “ The Florida Education Stakeholder Empowerment act” (the Legislative intent section below). Of the three Florida Senate candidates only Dennis McDonald signed the commitment and he signed it, without hesitation. Travis Hutson or Ronald “DOC” Renuart , did not. Renuart’s idea of opposing common core is denying that we have it at all.

The winner of the District 6 race, formally held by the pro-common-core , John Thrasher, will become the tie breaker vote, to decide who will be the 2016 Senate President , between Senator, Jack Latvala , (R-Clearwater) and Senator, Joe Negron, (R-Stuart).

Both Hutson and Renuart have both signed Pledge Cards, committing them to either Latvala or Negron. Only Dennis McDonald, will be able and willing to stop common core and in a position to influence the leadership in the Senate to do so as well.

If you live in District 6 please consider voting, because Renuart owes his political career to Jeb Bush so will never oppose common core.

Travis Hutson is better, but if it’s not about real estate or impact fees he will avoid the issue entirely. Dennis McDonald will fight common core, just like his wife Janet McDonald is fighting it as a newly elected member of the Flagler school board.

The Florida Education Stakeholders Empowerment Act

Section 1 – LEGISLATIVE INTENT

The purpose of this legislation is to empower all stakeholders and reclaim the educational sovereignty by the State of Florida under the US Constitution for the Legislature and citizens of Florida; for the duly elected school boards under the Florida Constitution; for teachers to spend more time teaching their students to help them thrive according to their knowledge and skills; for students to reclaim learning time instead of testing in order to have a broad based academic education that will enable them to choose their own path and to preserve our Republic; reaffirm inherent parental rights to raise and educate their children, and unleash their children’s creative potential.
