So here it is more than a year after the peculiar black cat who ran away from a neighbor's house moved in with me. I'm still not settled on her name. At first I wasn't so sure I wanted a pet and I resisted up until almost two months after her first appearance when a strong Nor' Easter sent her crying at my door late at night. I let her in and when I picked her up she pushed herself against my chest and laid her head to rest, something I've since discovered is not her nature as she has a "thing" about being held.

At any rate, after this year I realize that A. Yes, I am a cat owner and B. Now I need to figure out the best plan for her ongoing care.

My first question is about vaccines because I am generally skeptical of them and she is mostly an indoor cat who rarely wanders more than twenty feet from the back door even when she is let out. I am thinking she at least needs a vet visit soon for a general assessment but once there I know the vaccine issue will come up. So here I sit pondering what to do when it does.

The second question is about the food she eats. I've been buying the typical store brand hard cat foods which she seems to love. She actually turns her nose up at regular cooked meat and I don't know how she will react to a canned food switch. I'd love to say that I would make her food but who am I kidding. I rarely make food for myself so I don't see it happening on a daily basis unless I come up with something I can make once a week perhaps.

I found a few articles about the problems with dry food and now I am really concerned that this is all she eats.

Any input or advice about vaccines or food from seasoned cat parents would be more than welcomed! Tips on other cat related topics such as toys or health improvements would also be great!

Now if only I could decide on a name! Why can't I find one I like!?

You know, Wanda--after a year, whatever you've been calling her IS her name! Changing "cats" in midstream (lol) will only confuse the issue!

My cats respond to their names. I was surprised since I don't actually have much experience with cats. But they come when called and follow us all over the place.
