Spotted on twitter - #MH370 MAS CEO: "Cargo manifest includes - some fruits, 200kg lithium batteries, radios manufactured for China, and others."

Several times over the last few months I've been asked by the post office if my packages contain lithium batteries. It was often stressed that they are dangerous to ship and can start fires. The subject of the specific hazards of shipping them on planes was mentioned and I was told that even manufactuerers and dealers have to meet stringent packaging regulations to ship them. In my case, I was being asked about the types of batteries that are commonly found in many cameras and hand held devices.

A few nights ago I read an article about the investigation of the missing plane written by a Canadian pilot. He stated that we should not forget the simplest possibility that there was an electrical fire of some sort. He went on to explain how and why everything we know about the plane's behavior in terms of course changes, loss of communications and altering altitudes could be due to such a fire. That theory went viral but has sense then been either debunked or challenged, how ever you want to look at it. In this debunk article, ironically an attribute reporting his saying perhaps it was due to lithium batteries was pointed out not to have actually been part of his original blog.

Whether or not it turns out to be a fire that caused the disappearance, maybe the world should rethink transporting these batteries if they are that dangerous.

Something to think about ..........

Yet they let you have them in your cameras on the plane and I always forget to ask the post office what the difference is.
