There have been many complaints of mosquitoes since we arrived, and much slapping and scratching, although I seem to be impervious to the little beasties.  I rely on the Vitamin B-100 I take daily, but the rest rely on mosquito coils, and the air in the villa is fragrant with an incense smell.  This morning Mick and I are enjoying coffee on the patio and one of the swallows that nest on Joanne and George’s balcony comes zooming past, probably chasing a bug.  “Boy,” says Mick, “I sure hope they get the one that bit me last night!”

Today the Stumpy-Maligners are off to Athens, and there is much scurrying around, searching out mislaid articles and such.  The last loads of clothes have been dried overnight and are now being packed away, while a co-operative lunch is being prepared for their last feast.  While Papoo makes rice, others cut veggies, and soon a fragrant stuffing is being concocted with raisins, cinnamon, tomatoes, the rice, and other goodies.  We stuff peppers and tomatoes and courgettes (baby zucchini), and pack the remainder of the stuffing around them to bake in the oven.  Add dolmades, and all the rest of the good stuff, and it’s another great meal.

Soon it’s time to leave to take the Stumpys to Corfu airport.  The half-hour drive into town is becoming very familiar, and all too soon we arrive.  We all pile out and traipse through a very deserted airport—the cleaning lady even has her dog in tow!  Collapsed and asleep in the middle of the floor, of course, so Audrey has one more to add to her collection before she leaves.

Many hugs and goodbyes, and we depart, Crilly and Braxony in Jerky, while I stay with the rest to go book Joanne and George’s and Crilly’s rooms for Thursday night.  Then it’s back to the villa, stopping at three different supermarkets along the way to buy lamb, but no luck.  There must be a run on it because everywhere was sold out.  We settle for steaks and Grecian country sausages to grill for dinner.

On the way back we encounter four hitchhikers, and Mick says they look tired and depressed so we stop to give them a lift.  They are French tourists who couldn’t interpret the bus schedules to get back to their hotel.  There’s a spirited discussion in French during the drive when they learn Mick and Dana live near the Lot River, and we drop them off amidst many mercies and au revoirs.

Crilly and Braxony make yet another trip to Kassiopi to try and book the ferry, this time successfully, then do a little hiking before they return to the villa; Jackson has picked some very fragrant leaves and we all shout out “Mountain Sage!” when he brings them into the kitchen.  Aside from the steaks and sausages, we need to get rid of the leftovers, so while Jackson grills the meat to perfection, we raid the refrigerator and turn out the rest of the meal.

It’s more bridge after dinner (Grandma is a bridge shark) and we call it an early night.  Tomorrow we have to be out of the villa by 10:00 a.m.; I can’t believe it’s time to go home already!

Shy Girl
I will have to come back and read the rest of your story. I just caught this one on the home page. It sounds like you had fun. What a great place for a family get-together.

I'll ditto what Shy said. I've missed a few of these and want to catch up. As soon as I get off these pain pills I'll be back! It doesn't help with the reading. I love stories like this. I keep journals on most of my trips.

I keep journals, too--can bore you all to tears blogging daily for a long, long time!  lol!  Thanks for the interest, and I did have fun!  It was nice to see my family again since they all live in Europe and I'm still here, all by my lonesome...
